About the Course :
- Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the application of physical science (e.g. chemistry and physics), with mathematics, to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms.
- In addition to producing useful materials, modern chemical engineering is also concerned with pioneering valuable new materials and techniques - such as nanotechnology, fuel cells and biomedical engineering.
- The TWO main sectors in this field are:-
- Production of Chemical Products
- The knowledge of chemistry is combined with engineering for the production of chemical products needed by the society and related by-products. The work areas varies from petroleum and petrochemicals to food processing, specialty chemicals, explosives etc
- Maintenance of Chemical Plants
- It involves the invention, development, design, operation and management of processes and equipment in industries involving various chemical processes. Chemical engineers provides modern high quality materials that are essential for running an industry economy.
