FAQs :

Ques)What Computer Science course is all about?
Ans) Computer science (CS) spans the range from theory through programming to cutting-edge development of computing solutions. Computer science offers a foundation that permits graduates to adapt to new technologies and new ideas.

Ques)What Computer engineer is expected to do?
Ans) The work of computer scientists falls into four categories: a) Designing and building software; b) Developing effective ways to solve computing problems, such as storing information in databases, sending data over networks or providing new approaches to security problems. c) Devising new and better ways of using computers. d) Addressing particular challenges in areas such as robotics, computer vision, or digital forensics (although these specializations are not available in all computer science programs). Most computer science programs require some mathematical background.

Ques)What is the need of this course ?
Ans) Computing and computer technology are part of just about everything that touches our lives from the cars we drive, to the movies we watch, to the ways businesses and governments deal with us. Understanding different dimensions of computing is part of the necessary skill set for an educated person in the 21st century. Whether you want to be a scientist, develop the latest killer application, or just know what it really means when someone says “the computer made a mistake”, studying computing will provide you with valuable knowledge.

Ques) what qualities you need to have to pursue this course? OR What qualities you will develop while doing this course?
Ans) Computing is a discipline that offers rewarding and challenging possibilities for a wide range of people regardless of their range of interests. Computing requires and develops capabilities in solving deep, multidimensional problems requiring imagination and sensitivity to a variety of concerns Putting together a software system means thinking creatively about the design, finding clever solutions to problems, exploiting the best engineering practices, and maintaining a high-level vision of how all the parts fit together.

Ques) What can be speculated for this course ?
Ans)Computing jobs are among the highest paid and have the highest job satisfaction. Computing is very often associated with innovation, and developments in computing tend to drive it. This, in turn, is the key to national competitiveness. The possibilities for future developments are expected to be even greater than they have been in the past The Bureau of Labor Statistics says computing has the greatest potential for new jobs through 2014

Ques)This course needs a person to work in teams or as individuals?.

Computing is often about being part of a team that requires people with many different kinds of skills. Yet there is also plenty of space for individual flair and imagination. Ques) Won’t salaries for computing professionals fall as companies turn to cheaper labor overseas?

Ans) According to a January 2006 article on CNN.com, salaries for computing professionals are rising extremely fast. Among the top-ten jobs with the fastest growing salaries, computing represents fully half the list:

Projected Growth in Computing Employment & Overall Employment
Offshoring is unlikely to halt this growth for the simple reason that companies seek to maximize return rather than to minimize cost. Good software developers generate far more value for their companies than they cost, even at the high salaries that such positions command in the United States. The top software firms like Google and Microsoft will hire talented people wherever they can find them.

Ques) Aren’t computing jobs solitary and boring?
Ans)Computing professionals hardly ever work alone. In today’s world, building software requires the coordinated efforts of many people with a wide variety of skills. Designing a successful product requires effective communication not only among the members of the development team but also with the eventual users. Employers routinely cite good communication skills as an essential requirement for success in the field.

Ques)How can we sustain in this recession period after opting this course?
Ans)While there is no way of ensuring lifetime IT employment, there are steps students and IT workers can take to improve their chances of long-term employment in IT occupations. These include obtaining a strong educational foundation, learning the technologies used in the global software industry, keeping skills up to date throughout one’s career, developing good teamwork and communication skills, and becoming familiar with other cultures.

QuesWhat is Information Technology?
Information technology, IT is usually involved in the context of a business and is often used to automate manual tasks as well as improve efficiencies within an organization. By involving computer systems, IT has helped industry reach new markets and apply new services to customers and clients.
Areas in Information Technology:
In the field of Information Technology, there is a particular trend of specialization . In particular to databases, office information systems, local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), the internet and programming.

  • Programming - A program is set of coded instructions that enable a machine, especially a computer, to perform a desired sequence of operations. Thus programming languages deal with such sets of instructions or algorithms, which can be customized according to the output, we desire from the computer.
  • Information Technology News - The latest updates and news about Information Technology.
  • Artificial Intelligence - Artificial intelligence (AI) is a science that focuses on the design elements that enable computers to “think.” They are encoded with information that allows them to approach and deal with problems similar to the way humans do. A complex division of computer science, artificial intelligence projects endeavor to render machines capable of multitasking and relying on human-like senses. “Senses” such as seeing and hearing are translated by machines to produce impressive technology like movement activated electronics.
  • Web Hosting - Web hosting companies provide the equipment and resources that companies need to publish their web site on the Internet. Web hosting companies provide a web server, site maintenance, and web administrators to manage site construction and service. Larger organizations with technical staff may choose to hire their own web administrators to create, maintain, and update their site.
  • Computer Science Jobs - Computer Science is a constantly evolving field. Its dynamic nature propels the need for competent qualified computer science professionals constantly. As software stability becomes the crux of comfortable modern-day living, most companies look for professionals who can create software systems that ensure stability. Computer Science graduates can work with different industries as technical administrators or they can work in research led areas of computer industry.
  • Computer Science Degrees - Computer Science Degree prepares students towards different aspects about management and maintenance of computer systems. The first years of the degree course are designed to provide a basic understanding of the overall construction of computer systems, knowledge of various programming languages and algorithms, and a general introduction to software engineering.
  • Information Technology Degrees -  Information Technology is the backbone of most businesses today. As businesses go global they get complex in nature and that’s where information technology comes in to make the business transactions flow quickly and in a simpler mechanism. As information technology starts playing an important role in every sector, the need for competent and learned professionals will also rise. Most universities offer Bachelors degrees programs in Information Technology. Some universities also offer short-term certificate programs for working professionals who want to upgrade their skills set in Information technology area. These courses equip the students with all the necessary skill that would be required to join a start up or medium size Information Technology organization. This will also ensure that students learn entrepreneurial skills and are able to start their own enterprises.
  • Networks - A computer network is group of computers connected by cables or other means and using software that enables them to exchange information and share equipment.
  • Internet - The Internet, is commonly known as the information super highway, accessing the worlds information resources instantly (especially now since the introduction of broadband globally). Each culture and demographic including gender or race can express their view through a web page.
  • Databases - A computer database is a collection of information electronically organized so that it can be accessed, managed, and updated as needed. Computer databases typically contain information used in activities such as sales transactions, inventories, and mailing lists. Database administrators often manage databases.
  • Robotics - Simply defined a robot is a multifunctional, programmable machine. Robotics is an area of computer science that applies artificial intelligence and engineering methods to develop robots that perform a variety of functions.
  • Multimedia - Multimedia is a combination of elements such as music, lighting, computer-generated graphics, and video used for purposes of entertainment, presentation, advertising, or public relations.
  • Web Design - Web design is the process of putting together a website from conception to online publication. Consideration is given to each component that will ultimately render a website usable by its target audience. Web design encompasses a broad skill set, including technical proficiency, interpersonal communications, and an aptitude for design. Web designers are hired to produce websites according to customer specifications.
