< Home

The field of medical studies has witnessed widespread development over the past few years. The medical profession is continuously revamped with new ideas and new technologies. The diagnosis and treatments that was earlier handled singly by the general practitioner is today divided amongst a posse of specialists and with better results. Thus, specialisation is inevitable for the medical students who seek to carve a niche for themselves in this profession. Though climbing the ladder of success has become more complicated and arduous then even before but the positive aspect is that the opportunities for medical aspirants have multiplied. In the last two decades the country has witnessed a sudden surge in the establishment of medical colleges which has earned it an epithet “mushrooming of medical colleges”. The pliable Universities and Councils were used to bend rules, fuel corruption and violate standards of quality for accelerating the business of medical education. This scenario brings in the importance of medical council of India in picture.

Established in 1934, The Medical Council of India (MCI) was aimed to bring in uniform standards of higher qualification in Medicine and recognition of medical qualification in India and abroad. The main objectives with which the MCI was formed are as follows:

  • Standardisation of medical education both at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • It gives recommendation to the state as well as central government about approval and disapproval of medical institutions in India
  • MCI gives permanent and provisional registration to doctors with recognised medical qualification

Since its inception in 1934 the Medical Council of India has been taking care that new medical institutions approved by it stick to the parameters set by it. It also takes care that each MCI approved college maintains the quality standard of medical education. This is the reason why we need Medical Council of India Recognised Colleges.

The economy of the country has been booming after the Indian government had started liberalisation system in 1990s and its impact had fallen on the education system of the country. Liberalisation allowed higher education particularly in the field of medicine and healthcare to flourish with the participation of private bodies. It resulted in the establishment of many private colleges which got its recognition from medical council of India or dental council of India. And in this exhaustive list Sharda Group of Institutions (SGI) have carved an indelible mark in the realm of dentistry with the establishment of Hindustan Institute of Dental Sciences (HIDS).
