The history of medical education dates back to Rig Vedic period and since this period the study of medicine has remained an utmost important part of Indian education system. With the passage of time its horizon has been expanding with multiple and specialised streams being added every now and then. In 1934, The Medical Council of India was formed with an aim to control and maintain the quality of medical education. All the universities or colleges that impart medical education are monitored and timely inspected by the Medical Council of India. It is the medical council of India which grants recognition to colleges and universities conducting courses such as MBBS, MS, MD, BDS, MDS or any graduate or PG degree in the field of medicine and healthcare.
India today enlists a plethora of medical institutions which are recognised by the medical council of India (MCI). However there are only a few who could carve their niche as the premier medical institution in India. Some of the best known medical colleges in the northern part of India are AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), Delhi University College of Medical Sciences, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Christian Medical College and Hospital. Most of these premier medical colleges are government owned but a rare number of private players did enter the medical education arena and have become a successful name. Hindustan Institute of Dental Sciences (HIDS) is among MCI Approved College that can be a shining example of such successful endeavour. HIDS is an establishment of the Sharda Group of Institutions and it was incepted in the year 2006 in Greater Noida. It was soon approved by DCI (Dental Council of India), Ministry of Health, Govt. of India and affiliated under and running CCS Approved Courses. These accreditations are testimonials of the mark that the college has made over a very short span of time. Being the Dental Council of India recognised college; its prime focus is to establish uniform standards of higher education in dentistry.
Sharda Group of Institutions (SGI) is one such organisation which believes that a standard curriculum and a good faculty together play a pivotal role in shaping the future medicos.
