Scope / Career Prospects: After the completion of M.Tech Computer Science and Engineering program, students will have plenty of career opportunities in various organizations and multi-national companies. Job prospects for computer engineers have been increasing rapidly both in India and abroad.
The broader areas include information system operation and management, programming and software development, networking, telecommunications, web and internet, computer science, image processing, training and support.
At senior management levels the industry offers almost the best compensation. At entry level also offers range from Rs. 2.5 lakh/p.a. to Rs. 6.5 lakh/p.a. and in 4 years the earnings get doubled. For those trained in niche areas of software development, ERP, VLSI & chip design, etc. or in MNCs of repute Rs. 4.0 lakh/p.a. to Rs. 8 lakh/p.a. at entry level may be offered. Almost 50% of the demand is from the Banking, Finance, Securities, Investment, Insurance sectors (known in short as BFSI Sectors) & here engineers/B.Tech. are not necessarily needed, but MCA students with Commerce, Accounts, Math’s background & Business sense can do really very well. But such MCA students are in short supply. The average MCA students can get employed as programmers & applications support engineers & then gradually grow into senior positions. Initial salaries vary from Rs. 1.8 lakh/p.a. to Rs. 4 lakh/p.a. for MCA’s depending on merit & aptitude.
There are plenty of jobs in retail, tourism, travel & hospitality; healthcare, transport, B.P.O.’s, K.P.O’s & Service Support, hardware and networking where BCA’s are needed in huge numbers with a starting entry level salary of 1.2 L.P.A. to 1.8 L.P.A. B.C.A’s desirous of higher paying jobs may combine MBA or MCA degrees, & earn twice as much. The duties of an IT professional may include data management, networking, engineering computer hardware, database and software design, as well as the management and administration of entire systems. The world IT market is estimated at 1.6 trillion dollars, out of which only about 60 billion dollars is currently India’s share, which is likely to grow to 600 billion dollars over the next decade…. so we have only seen the initial part of IT growth.
